5 Basic SEO Rules for Your Website

SEO or Search engine optimization is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion.

So I present, 5 basic “SEO Rules” to follow when you launch a new website.

1) Don’t Re-Use Your Title Tag On Every Page

Many times your website designer doesn’t even realize this is being done. Your creative team is more concerned with the visual presentation than to worry about something they consider more of a minor ‘nuisance”.

Most of the time, your website has been created from a template, which ensures that everything looks the same -design wise- from one page to another. This is perfect to get the site off the ground and out there. Most WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editors work this way as well, templates allow for easy production of web pages.

The drawback to this from an SEO perspective is that the Title and Meta tags are all repeated. To get your website off on the right foot, change each page’s title tag to reflect what the page is about. You’ll be surprised at the good this can do for each of your web site’s pages.

2) Keyword Research

It would be wise to do at least a little keyword research before your launch your website. Understanding how your audience searches is the most beneficial thing you can do for your website. Doing even the slightest amount of research can clue you into small idiosyncrasies that could be “gold mines” in disguise.

Keyword research can also let you know how to target the content on your page, how to word each page’s title tag and whether people really are searching on your business name. It’s well worth the time spent to discover exactly what you need to target to have a successful website.

Common search engine principles

o understand seo you need to be aware of the architecture of search engines. They all contain the following main components:

* Spider - a browser-like program that downloads web pages.

* Crawler - a program that automatically follows all of the links on each web page.

* Indexer - a program that analyzes web pages downloaded by the spider and the crawler.

* Database - storage for downloaded and processed pages.

* Results engine -extracts search results from the database.

* Web server - a server that is responsible for interaction between the user and other search engine components.

Specific implementations of search mechanisms may differ. For example, the Spider+Crawler+Indexer component group might be implemented as a single program that downloads web pages, analyzes them and then uses their links to find new resources. However, the components listed are inherent to all search engines and the seo principles are the same.

Tips for ranking high on Google Image Search

Attach a 7-8 word description with both the ALT and TITLE attributes of the IMG tag - Make it a habit to use these attributes.

A short two line description of the image just beneath the graphic is the best way to describe an image.

If possible, try to wrap text around your images using float.

If your site design won't allow wrapping text or if the image is large in size, try to place the images near the text that describes the context of your image. If the image is of an Adobe Photoshop box, don't place that image near the paragraph that describes Corel Photopaint.

Web Images placed at the top of the page are more likely to appear in search results than the ones which are at the bottom.

Web Photo Galleries which have no text descriptions can make use of the Title and Meta tags to insert information about the images.

A descriptions enclosed in H3 or Bold tag will have more weight than the one enclosed in the Parapraph tag.

Website Optimisation for Organic Ranking on Search Engines

Search Engines and Directories have guidelines something like a rulebook, which defines what design factors are considered good and bad from the search engines point of view. Or rather, what is considered legible and illegible as search engine spiders do not have eyes and cannot see quite a few factors that constitute part of the aesthetically designed website, e.g. images, flash, etc.

By knowing what factors search engines use to rank pages, we can focus our efforts and achieve rankings without resorting to Spam. A search engine friendly website is thus the first step towards high search engine rankings. We can either consult with you on an existing website modifying it to meet search engine parameters or help you design a totally new website that search engines can read, understand, index and promote.

It is still and will remain the King – Content Optimisation:Your web site’s content is the search engine’s content, so search engines want sites with high quality content above all else. Web pages with high keyword density and Text that accurately reflects the products, and services offered by the website. Some authors combat this by placing their keywords at the bottom of their pages in invisible text. But this method is considered Spam and will lead to blacklisting of your website.

Skilled content writers can optimise your website’s content to enrich it with keywords while making complete sense to a novice, i.e. text content that appeals to spiders and surfers alike.
Website Page Re-naming:Recently, search engines including Google and Inktomi have started to use keywords in the URL as a part of their ranking formula. Unless you’re one of the lucky ones who registered their domain name back in 1996, you will probably have little luck finding a domain name with your keywords in it.

Fortunately, we can rectify your problem. The solution is to name your files with appropriate keywords. Let’s say that you sell web services. Solution Point will re-name your page info.html, to web_services.html and try to insert a keyword in the name of every single file.
Website Link Re-naming:Good navigation through a website isn’t just important to users. Search engines use the links within websites to crawl and index the pages those links point to. It’s very important that you have text links on your website that contain your target keywords. The easier and more convenient it is for search engines to get in and scan your website, the more traffic they are going to deliver to your website.

Creation of Nice SiteMap:This is a textual representation of your site’s structure. It includes every single page on your site, usually categorized for easier navigation. Site maps provide a great way to make sure that search engines, which follow links, index every page. They act as a roadmap of your website for search engine crawlers. The more of your website the search engine sees, the more times you will appear in a search result for a certain topic.
Recommendation & Creation of Link Pages:Search Engines prefer websites that provide a host of external links. They consider such websites to be portals of information and thus relevant and helpful for the surfers queries. Solution Point thus helps you tap in on this factor by creating Pages that bear links to your clients, relevant websites of your industry, your partners, etc

6 Top SEO Information for Search Engine Optimization

Mostly On-Page SEO is the most important than any other means of optimization. The processes are very easy but important while designing and content to pages. From my personal experience

I have managed to come up 6 ways to optimize web pages easily.

1. Keywords positioning :- I always seek to use Google’s Keyword Tool, Google Trend, Overture Keyword Tool to search what other people are searching related to my content. Then write my content using those keywords. Some people just try to over populate keywords. I believe 6%-10% keywords in content in enough for search engines to find your website from thousands of website approximately the world.

2. Title Tags:-Title tag is very important. Title should not be too long. For Google, 70 characters are enough for SERP. Keywords should be place in a natural way. Repetitions look is odd to see when web pages come on SERP. Descriptive titles have maximum clickthoughs.

3. Internal Linking :- Internal linking is very important. The more links are spread, the more Page Rank is distributed between the pages. Spiders are very frequents to different pages and can dig very deep.

4. Meta Description Tags:- Meta description is another important for on-page SEO. Google only consider 155 characters from Meta description. So it’s important to write a unique Meta description within 155 characters using keywords.

5. Use Images and ALT tags:- Images make articles and pages attractive to visitors. More over images are also indexed different search engines. Using relevant keywords in the image alt tags help in SERP.

6. Sitemap submission:- Sitemap help visitors to navigate between pages and also helps search engine bot to index very easily. I personally submit sitemap to Google Sitemap, Live Webmaster and Yahoo! Site Explorer regularly. To generate XML sitemap, I use XML Sitemaps or VIGOS Gsitemap. For Word press websites, I use Google XML Sitemaps plug-in

Increasing Web Traffic

Every online business thrives on traffic, especially targeted traffic. An absence of traffic to your web site is not a good sign as it means that there is no one to purchase your products or services and hence, no money to be earned. Many Internet business operators make it their priority to increase web traffic. If you are serious about growing your online business, then an increase in web traffic to your site should be what you are aiming towards as well.

For small business, especially if you are just starting out, budget might be your chief concern. However, the Internet is a vast entity and kick starting your business doesn't have to take a truckload of cash. Many successful businesses online began small on budget but big on determination and innovation. Here are a few suggestions for low cost ways to increase web traffic without burning a hole in your already small pocket.

Writing articles and submitting them to article directories is an effective technique in drawing interest from your target audience in the type of products or services you are offering on your web site. All you need is to invest your time and effort into writing. Having your articles in directories will make your web-presence felt by the Internet audience as well as establishes a link for interested persons back to your site. This is one sure way to increase web traffic on a low budget. Going one step further to find directories with niche viewers relevant to your products or services can take your business up a level.

Another very affordable approach to market your site and increase web traffic is in creating a business blog. This can be done on any free blog service like Blogger.com. Your blog should not only contain daily updates on your products and information about your business but also a link back to your web site. These posts are often easily picked up by search engines, increasing your chances of being featured on search results for topics relevant to your business.

Starting a new business is never easy. It takes hard work, a full-time commitment and the ability to plan your marketing strategies wisely. Never allow a low budget to discourage you from wanting to grow your business and increase web traffic. A little effort goes a long way in long-term success.

Search Engine Optimization India

Search engine optimization is the process of optimizing, or making your site good for, natural search engine rankings. I use the term natural search engine rankings to simply differentiate SEO from the purchased or sponsored search engine rankings.

There are two primary ideas of search engine optimization that of On page SEO and Off Page SEO. On page SEO is all the search engine optimization that takes place on your webpage itself. Every thing from keywords, Meta tags, title, description, keywords, alt tags etc.

Off page SEO is all the search engine optimization you do that is not on the web page itself, the most important part of off page SEO is that of generating back links to your web site. Proper On page and Off page SEO together will definitely get you to the top.
SEO Benefits:

* Increased website traffic
* Increased leads/sales
* Wider target market-global market
* Lower marketing costs
* Dominate your competition/competitors

Search Engine Compatable Web Design

If your website was designed without SEO in mind, Infrascape can re-design your existing website source code to suit the search engine's requirements. These would include modification of source code, renaming of files and directories, as well as incorporating a HTML sitemap, etc.

Robot Text

Robots plays important role in the field of SEO. We have two ways to control pages and folders one is using Robots META tag and other is through robots.txt

A web page creator can specify which page should be indexed and which page should not be indexed by search engines by placing Robots META tag in the HTML section

Here are some Robots tags that are common

< content="NOINDEX" name="ROBOTS">- Ignore content and follow links
< content="NOFOLLOW, INDEX " name="ROBOTS">- Include content and do not follow links
< content="NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW" name="ROBOTS">- Ignore content and do not follow links
< content="INDEX,FOLLOW" name="ROBOTS">- Include content and follow links
< content="NOARCHIVE" name="ROBOTS">- Cache link should not show Search results pages
< content="NOODP" name="ROBOTS">- The Open Directory Project (ODP) title and description for the page should not be displayed in Search results
< content="NOYDIR" name="ROBOTS">- The Yahoo Directory title and description for the page should not be displayed in Search results
< content="NOSNIPPET" name="ROBOTS">- Titles are only displayed in Search results page and not description or text context for this page

In addition to manage folder level user agent control robots.txt file can be used. This file can be placed in root of each server and the format is plain text not HTML

Through this file website owner or webmaster can allow access to web page content and disallow access to admin, cgi and any secured files that you don’t want search engines to index

A typical robots.txt file will look like

User-agent: *
Allow: /
Disallow: /admin*
Allow: *content*
Disallow: /test/
Disallow: /paypal/
Disallow: /credit/
Disallow: /cgi/

Explains, all robots can crawl except the admin files, and crawl files named content folder, and should not crawl test, paypal, credit and cgi folder.
