What Are Some Social Media Websites?

Now that we have answered the question of what is social media, we can move on to social media websites. Because social media is such a broad term, it covers a large range of websites. But the one common link between these websites is that you are able to interact with the website and interact with other visitors.

Here are some examples of social media websites:

* Social Bookmarking. (Del.icio.us, Blinklist, Simpy) Interact by tagging websites and searching through websites bookmarked by other people.

* Social News. (Digg, Propeller, Reddit) Interact by voting for articles and commenting on them.
* Social Networking. (Facebook, Hi5, Last.FM) Interact by adding friends, commenting on profiles, joining groups and having discussions.

* Social Photo and Video Sharing. (YouTube, Flickr) Interact by sharing photos or videos and commenting on user submissions.

* Wikis. (Wikipedia, Wikia) Interact by adding articles and editing existing articles.

And these websites are not the only social media websites. Any website that invites you to interact with the site and with other visitors falls into the definition of social media.

Search Engine Optimization Facts and Tips

1. Insert keywords within the title tag so that search engine robots will know what your page is about. The title tag is located right at the top of your document within the head tags. Inserting a keyword or key phrase will greatly improve your chances of bringing targeted traffic to your site.

Make sure that the title tag contains text which a human can relate to. The text within the title tag is what shows up in a search result. Treat it like a headline.

2. Use the same keywords as anchor text to link to the page from different pages on your site. This is especially useful if your site contains many pages. The more keywords that link to a specific page the better.

3. Make sure that the text within the title tag is also within the body of the page. It is unwise to have keywords in the title tag which are not contained within the body of the page.

Adding the exact same text for your h1 tag will tell the reader who clicks on your page from a search engine result that they have clicked on the correct link and have arrived at the page where they intended to visit. Robots like this too because now there is a relation between the title of your page and the headline.

Also, sprinkle your keywords throughout your article. The most important keywords can be bolded or colored in red. A good place to do this is once or twice in the body at the top of your article and in the sub-headings.

4. Do not use the exact same title tag on every page on your website. Search engine robots might determine that all your pages are the same if all your title tags are the same. If this happens, your pages might not get indexed.

I always use the headline of my pages as the title tag to help the robots know exactly what my page is about. A good place to insert the headline is within the h1 tag. So the headline is the same as the title tag text.

5. Do not spam the description or keyword meta tag by stuffing meaningless keywords or even spend too much time on this tag. SEO pros all agree that these tags are not as important today as they once were. I just place my headline once within the keywords and description tags.

6. Do not link to link-farms or other search engine unfriendly neighborhoods.

7. Do not use doorway pages. Doorway pages are designed for robots only, not humans. Search engines like to index human friendly pages which contain content which is relevant to the search.

8. Title tags for text links. Insert the title tag within the HTML of your text link to add weight to the link and the page where the link resides. This is like the alt tag for images.

SEO Sitemaps and Crawler Response Time

Can a sitemap make your website more attractive to a search engine web crawler? That’s the theory going around after a few successful trial runs which have been carried out recently.

A popular SEO blog has recently put together a trial where they added on a sitemap to six posts and left a further six posts without a sitemap. Their research found that when they submitted a sitemap with the post it took the Google bot 14 minutes to visit it and 245 minutes for the Yahoo! bot to visit.

Compare this to when they didn’t add a sitemap which took 1375 and 1773 minutes for Google and Yahoo! bots respectively to visit them.

White Hat Media’s Top SEO tips

identify Correct Keywords. Your site should include keywords that your prospective clients key into the major search engines.

Optimize Your Page Titles

One of the most vital SEO techniques is to position your keywords within the Title description for each page. This will assist your search engine rankings and help users to identify the content of the page when they bookmark it.

Build Internal Links

An often mistaken assumption is that every visitor will start at your home page. Most will, but it's important to check that each page on your site is linked to the others.

Develop Inbound Links

You should seek inbound links from other relevant websites. Linking from text placed in the body of other websites is very valuable, particularly if it includes your keywords. Be very selective when choosing link partners.

Meta Tags

Some SEO professionals suggest that using tags is the best way to optimize your web page by letting the search engine spiders know which are the most important words.

Increase Your PPC Profits With Negative Keywords

Use 'negative keywords' and your PPC profits can increase dramatically. This valuable technique tells Google which phrases your ad should not be displayed for. For example, if you're selling brand new 'apple laptops', you don't want your ad to appear when someone searches for 'refurbished apple laptops', so 'refurbished' should be a negative keyword for your campaign.

Negative keywords are an integral part of any successful PPC campaign, stopping your adverts from appearing when a search query includes a term that is not relevant to your ad.

By adding negative keywords to your campaigns, you are filtering out unwanted traffic, helping you reach the most appropriate prospects whilst lowering your costs.

To find, prepare and add negative keywords to your Google Adwords account, go through the following steps:

  1. Find your negative keywords
  2. Prepare your list of negative keywords
  3. Go to ‘Negative Keywords’ in your Google Adwords account
  4. Enter your negative keywords

Search Engine Optimization Strategies

1. Meta Tags. Meta tags are simple lines of code at the top of your web page programming that tell search engines about your page. Include the title tag, keyword stag, description tag, and robots tag on each page

2. Create and update your sitemap. Developing a site map is a simple way of giving search engines the information they need to crawl your entire website. There are plenty of free software packages on the web that can help you generate a sitemap. Once you create a sitemap, submit it to Google and Yahoo

3. Ensure that all navigation is in HTML. All too often, navigational items are in the form of java script. Even though navigation technically still works in this format, it’s not optimized. Create your navigation in HTML to enhance internal links throughout your website

4. Check that all images include ALT text. Your image’s alt text is spidered by search engines. If you’re not including your keywords in alt text, you are missing out on a huge opportunity for improved search engine result placements. Label all of your images properly.

5. Use Flash content sparingly. Content generated through java script or flash is a big no-no. Some webmasters like to use flash because of the presentation. If you must, use it sparingly, but only after your site has been properly optimized with basic search engine optimization in mind.

New sitemap standards make it easier for all search engines to find your site

Sitemaps have been about for a while. They were originally created a visual guide to your website. As websites became larger and more complex webmasters used them as a way to view the entire structure of a website to find the connections between pages. Think of them as a kind of interactive table of contents and index rolled into one.

In recent years the search engines have been viewing site maps as a good way to index websites and find all the related content. Google led the charge to make this a mainstream web tool when it introduced XML sitemaps. Creating and submitting an XML sitemap to Google is still the best way to get your website completely crawled by Google. It has become a standard SEO best practice.

As with many things on the web, Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN and Ask all had their own specific way to use and submit sitemaps in the format they dictated. About six months ago a couple of these folks joined forces to create a standardized method of sitemap creation. They formed an organization called Sitemaps.org and agreed on using the XML sitemap format.

Sorry for the history lesson, but this is really good news for small business web site owners because it will greatly simplify the process of creating and submitting your sitemap and in doing so enhance your chances of getting your entire website indexed by all the search engines.

So, in today's article I'm going to tell you how to create and submit your XML sitemap.

What is a sitemap?

According to Sitemaps.org: "Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling. In its simplest form, a Sitemap is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional metadata about each URL (when it was last updated, how often it usually changes, and how important it is, relative to other URLs in the site) so that search engines can more intelligently crawl the site."

Building an XML sitemap

While there are several ways to actually create an XML sitemap I like XML-Sitemaps.com The good news is that if you have a rather small site (under 500 pages) you can simply use their free tool to create an xml sitemap. Over 500 pages and you need to get the $19.95 download.

Getting Your Sitemap found

Once you create your sitemap it's still a good idea to create a free Google Webmaster account so that you can submit your sitemap directly to Google Sitemaps

Robots.txt file

Now here's where the coming together of the search engines gets really nice. Not only will Ask, Google, Yahoo, AOL and MS Live accept the XML format for your sitemap they have also decided to accept an easy, auto-discovery method. In other words you won't have to figure out how to submit to each as they will find your sitemap if you direct them using your robots.txt file. A robots.txt file is a very simple file that resides on your server giving information for the search engines. Many use this file to tell the search engines not to find certain information.

If you already have a robots.txt file, you can simply add the line of code below anywhere to it. If you don't have one, simply create a file in notepad or other text editor, add the code below, save it as robots.txt and upload to the root of your site. (Obviously you need to put the actual URL of your site in here)

Sitemap: http://www.yourwebsite.com/sitemap.xml

Advanced tip - If you use the paid version of xml-sitemap generator you can set up what's known as a cron job (it's a Unix only thing) and have your site crawled on a weekly basis and update your sitemap. This is really great if you blog several times a weeks on your domain as it adds your newest posts. Ask your web host about this one.

Google Optimization Tips

About search engines

The two biggest search engines worldwide are Google (used by Google / AOL) and Overture (used by MSN / Yahoo). Google fills it's database mainly by letting robots automatically crawl and index the web. The Overture database is mainly filled through affiliate programs. That will cost you, so let's focus on Google for now.

A bot visit

You can request a Google robot visit at [www.google.com/addurl www.google.com/addurl]. The robot will browse your site and index it's contents. Expect to have to wait for a couple of weeks before this will happen. Also, always list your site at http://www.dmoz.org. This is Google's webdirectory and, next to the google robot, an important source of the google search API

Google Images Search Optimization Tips

Every website owners tries to optimize their websites to rank in the top of the search engines but many of them are missing a big way to drive in free traffic to their websites.

1. Alt Tag : Alt Tag makes the search engine spiders understand (or) recognize the images. Always make sure you add a relevant alternate name for your images. These Alternate Tags will be displayed on the search engine result pages instead of the file names.Example : ”Formula1

2. SEO Friendly File Names : Another Images optimizing trick to give your images a better file name rather the ones which are auto generated by digital cameras. If your image name is DSC45s8874.jpg how can search engine spiders recognize this image? You should rather rename this file to formula1-car-wallpaper.jpg . Also a hiphen is always recommended rather than using a underscore in the file names for better search engine rankings.

Add your images within the posts with related keywords near by the image placement so the spiders index the images and rank them. Testing is always required and you will need to add perfectly relevant alternate tags and place images in the most relevant position.

Add Images of relevant category if completely relevant images are not present. In case you have a article on “ferrari car head lights” and you dont find any images on this topic, you can add
images on “ferrari cars” because they still are related to the theme of your article and would help you rank for ferrari cars images in google images search.

Keep tracking your already indexed images using the site search operator like http://images.google.com/images?q=site:amitbhawani.com and keep checking the total count regularly with the text/image description on the search pages. This way you can know whether you are correctly optimizing your website images or not.

Try to create images on topics you find very less image results and guess there would be a lot of searches for the same. You can guess that every new year there would be heavy searches for images with search keywords like “New year 2008 Wallpapers” and you can create some images related to the same and add Alt tag with the keywords to rank well in google images and drive in heavy traffic.

Resize your images in case you are using duplicate images. If you are using a image which is copied from another website like stock images website, resize the image using a image editor software like photoshop and add alternate tags to the same. This way the search engines count this image as a unique one and helps you to gain more traffic.

Understand Backlinks from Search Engines

Most Search Engine Optimizers understand the importance of the backlinks in order for a website to succeed. Most search engines take into account of the backlinks quality for their ranking algorithm. We will cover the top three search engines (Google, Yahoo and MSN) here and discuss how they treat backlinks from their point of view.
The most popular search engine, Google, places great emphasis on backlinks. In fact, relevant backlinks is all a website needs to achieve a high ranking in Google result page. Google, however, does not shows all the indexed backlinks when user queries with the link: operator. In addition, Google does not update their backlink index as frequent as their search results.
It is believed that multiple backlinks from a same domain does not have the stack effect in Google. For example, links from forum signatures and directories will have minimum weigh in Google's ranking algorithm.

Yahoo, on the other hand, chooses to display all the backlinks to the users. A search with the link: operator often reveals most of a page's backlinks to screen. Although they display most of the backlinks, it does not mean that they value them as much as in Google. Unfortunately, backlinks are not as important as they are in Yahoo than in Google.
Yahoo has introduced a site explorer interface to aid the webmasters in locating the backlinks and other useful information. Yahoo also provides one of the best API for the web masters' usage.

MSN also offers to display all the backlinks to the user with the link: operator query. The backlinks update in MSN also seems to be the most updated among all the three search engines. It may seems that MSN focus a lot on backlinks but this is usually not the case. Backlinks are not as important as keyword domain in MSN's point of view.

In conclusion, Google is the only search engine that put a lot of focus on backlinks in their ranking formula and since they are the most popular search engine, backlinks are important for every website. It is recommended to use Yahoo or MSN to check for backlinks because they show a more complete listing.

How Important are META Tags?

Meta tags don't matter. Meta tags aren't a magic Search Engine Optimization solution. Meta tags help determine how you rank in Google. Meta tags can affect the volume of incoming traffic to your website. You need Meta tags on every page of your website. You don't Meta tags on any page of your website but the main page.
Confused yet? Depending upon what you read about search engine optimization, Meta tags are either the be-all, end-all of good SEO practices, or an irrelevant exercise overshadowed by more important things, namely site content and link popularity. Over the years, the question of Meta tags has been discussed and debated by people in the SEO game, and in some cases sites have been taken to task to using certain words in Meta data not appropriate for the site's material. Whatever you choose to believe about Meta and such HTML tags, let it be clear that if you are going to implement such code on your site, it is best to do so correctly and in a way that will enhance rather than harm your site.

8 simple SEO tips for blogs

  1. The first thing to do is to ensure that your blogs URL contains the primary keyword you want to optimize for. Using the targeted keyword in subdomains also helps.

For example, if you want to start a HTML tutorial site then the primary keyword you want your URL to contain is html. So choose a URL like www.htmlhelp.com.

You can also use the keyword in subdomains like www.web-design.com/htmlhelp

  2. Use your primary keyphrase in the title of your posts

If your primary key phrase is html help make sure that the word html and help appear in your blog headers such as H1 and H2 tags as well as the title of each of your posts.

  3. Use your secondary keywords in the body of your post

If you want to get listed for secondary keywords use them infrequently in the body of your post. The theory is that the more times a keyword appears within a Webpage, the more relevant the page is likely to be for someone searching those keywords.

But do not overdo this by repeating the same keywords over and over again. Google bots can find out if a keyword is too frequent on a page and might just remove your site from their index.

  4. Use your keywords in the anchor text of links

Use your primary and secondary keywords in the anchor text of links when linking to other blog posts or to other pages of your blog. Keyword in links have more importance than simple text.

  5. Make sure search engines can spider your blog easily

Make sure your navigation bar is present on all pages of your blog. Your previous posts or atleast the popular ones should be linked to all pages so they get spidered easily.

  6. Get backlinks from other blogs

You need as many links as possible to link back to your posts or blog because it will help you build pagerank and get your blog to rank higher in search engines. The more links you have the higher your blog is ranked in Technorati helping your blog to be found easily.

So how do you get backlinks?

    • The first thing to do to get high-quality links is to submit your blog and RSS feed to blog search engines and directories.

Start by submitting your blog to all the directories listed on this page:
      http://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/

    • Link exchanging with other similarly-themed blogs will help you to form richly interlinked networks or communities.
    • If you find an interesting article on another blog, link to it generously. The trackback will become a link back to your blog.
    • Lastly posting legitimate comments in response to posts on other blogs will help you get backlinks. Regularly post legitimate comments in similarly-themed blogs with high traffic to get many backlinks.
  7. Update your blog frequently

Update your blog frequently using all the rules mentioned above and your blog will surely get top rankings in a short time.

  8. Stick with your blog

Once you start posting on your blog, stick with the same domain or you could end up losing a lot of your traffic and regular readers.

Also stick with the topic you selected for your blog. If it’s about pets don’t suddenly switch to another topic such as Gadget’s because you will loose traffic.

What Is a Title Tag
Search Engines and Title Tags

Title tags are definitely one of the “big three” as far as the algorithmic weight given to them by search engines; they are equally as important as your visible text copy and the links pointing to your pages — perhaps even more so.

Do Company Names Belong in the Title Tag?

This is one of the most common questions asked about titles. The answer is a resounding YES! I’ve found that it’s fine to place your company name in the title, and *gasp*, even to place it at the beginning of the tag! In fact, if your company is already a well-known brand, I’d say that it’s essential. Even if you’re not a well-known brand yet, chances are you’d like to eventually be one. The title tag gives you a great opportunity to further this cause.

This doesn’t mean that you should put *just* your company name in the title tag. Even the most well-known brands will benefit from a good descriptive phrase or two added, as it will serve to enhance your brand as well as your search engine rankings. The people who already know your company and seek it out by name will be able to find you in the engines, and so will those who have never heard of you but seek the products or services you sell.

Title Tags Should Contain Specific Keyword Phrases

For example, if your company is "Johnson and Smith Inc.," a tax accounting firm in Texas, you shouldn’t place only the words "Johnson and Smith Inc." in your title tag, but instead use something like "Johnson and Smith Inc. Tax Accountants in Texas."

As a Texas tax accountant, you would want your company’s site to appear in the search engine results for searches on phrases such as "Texas tax accountants" and "CPAs in Texas." (Be sure to do your keyword research to find the best phrases!) You would need to be even more specific if you prefer to work with people only in the Dallas area. In that case, use keywords such as "Dallas tax accountants" in your site’s title tags.

Get Your Website Indexed Faster

This is what we all want getting indexed faster in the major search engines like google. There are a two ways of speeding up the process of getting indexed.

Sitemap’s is one of these ways. A sitemap is basicly what it says a map of your site. You can put all your pages in the sitemap and submit it to google.

Where can you make a sitemap?
http://www.xml-sitemaps.com (500 free pages)
http://www.auditmypc.com/xml-sitemap.asp (Unlimited pages)
On those site’s your able to make a sitemap of your website and get all your pages listed in google. So if your worried that not all your pages are getting indexed our it’s taking to much time then make a sitemap and submit it your self.
Where can you submit the sitemap?
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/siteoverview
Follow the steps on the link above.
The more pages you get in google the more traffic you can get. For bigger sites I would recommend to invest some money in a better sitemap maker so your able to list all your pages and update them yourself.

The next way on getting indexed faster is even easyer. Find a site that get’s indexed well on google and do a link exhange with that site our buy a link. Now everytime the google bots crawls that site it wil visit your link and crawls it to.

Seo tips for a diving site

I posted a topic on a forum offering onSITE seo service and the same day I got a pm from someone with a scuba diving website that needed seo tips. I did it quikly and for free and I am sharing the tips I gave the guy.

http://divingindepth.com

I noticed the title is the same on most of your pages. Here is one of them:
http://divingindepth.com/wreck-diveguide.htm

Your title is: DiD - Scuba Diving Resource & Diving Community
When having a page like wreck-diveguide use a matching title like:
“Scuba diving Wreck Diveguide”
Do this for all your pages. Title them differently related to the content.
This is one of the things google wants to see on your website.
Metatags:
Your using the following keywords:
scuba diving, equipment, gear, careers, jobs, travel destinations, forum, vacation, underwater photography, open water, wreck, cave, technical, spearfishing, free diving
Ok scuba diving is a good keyword, really fits your site.
Change “equipment” to “scuba diving equipment”Change “gear” to “scuba diving gear”
You will not rank for the keywords gear, careers, jobs, forum, vacation, wreck, cave, technical, spearfishing withouta lot of backlinks. Thays why you need to change them to the things I did above.
Here are some examples:
Diving careers ( easyer to rank so easyer traffic )Diving jobsScuba diving forumCheap diving vacationScuba diving vacationAnd so on..
Images
Your using a lot of images on your website. Title all of them with your keywords. Everything should be content related.
example:

http://divingindepth.com/images/Wreck1.jpg
It does not has a title.. you could call this image “diving wreck” this wil increase the seo on your website. And the imagemight even rank in google images for diving wreck. You have to do this with all images. Use the keywords you set in yourmeta tags.
You should also title your logo with the main keyword.
NofollowAre you familiar with the nofollow tag?
(nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index.)
You use it like this:rel=”nofollow” on your links.
So if you have outgoing links on your website use this tag on them. Our use it on pages you don’t want google to index. I use this tagfor most of my partner links. The bot basicly crawls your site but you can increase the crawl rate by using the tag.
Like on pages like this:
http://www.divingindepth.com/TermsofUsePrivacy.htm
There is no need for google to index this. It only slows the crawling process.
Links
The linksClick here to read the complete article
Can be titles differently so let’s say
“Read more about scuba diving in Southern Africa”
This way you have the keywords in there. And you can also title these links keyword related.
I noticed your sitemap
http://www.divingindepth.com/SiteMap.htm
This is great keep that running!
Backlinks
Diving careersDiving jobsScuba diving forumCheap diving vacationScuba diving vacation
And that will rank you pretty high. I did the same with seolust.com still ranking for seo tricks for months.
Anyway I hope this will help you out to understand the seo a little more.

Traffic from google

What alot of people forget that seo is not just building links, site optimizing and all the other shit people are talking about. An very important factor is traffic. And i’m not talking about google traffic but traffic from different sources. Your site needs an certain ammount of visitors outside google traffic to get more traffic from google.

This might only counts for the sites that are already well listed and are already getting a decent ammount of google traffic but are stuck with the same ammount of visitors.
Focus on traffic outside google and your site will get more traffic from google!!

8 ways to submit your site to yahoo

Yahoo is both a search engine and a directory. By submitting your site to Yahoo's human-edited directory, you may have a better chance of being found by purely spider-driven engines (such as Google). It's best to figure out exactly where your site or content may fit in the Yahoo structure before submitting willy-nilly to anything that has the word "submit" in it. Expect a "reasonable delay" when using any of these site submission options.
There are eight (!) submission options with Yahoo; I'm going to briefly go over them one by one:
free site submission
free mobile site submission
free media content submission
Yahoo search index submission
sponsored search
product submission
travel submission

Alt Attribute

Alt text is the line of text you see pop up (in Internet Explorer, see note below) when you place your cursor over an image. It also displays a text representation of the image when the user has images turned off in their browser (this is the intended behavior). It is highly recommended that you utilize this area as it is required under accessibility laws and, is indexed by the search engines.

Note: Internet Explorer (IE) will display alt text when you hover your cursor over an element that utilizes the alt attribute. This is incorrect behavior as the alt text is designed to be displayed when the user has their images turned off while browsing. Other browsers such as Opera and Mozilla will not display the alt text on hover.

The alt attribute should not to be stuffed with keywords or phrases. The alt text should mirror the content of the image. If it is a graphic header, then your alt attribute should mirror the text in the graphic header.

Alternative text values should not exceed 80 characters in length. If more than 70-80 characters are required one should use the longdesc attribute as an alternative to alt text.

clean html code search engine optimization

A factor that many overlook, but that is just as important as keyword research and application, search engine submission, or link popularity, is the size, appearance, and cleanliness of your HTML coding. The size, cleanliness, and appearance and presentation to the search engine robots and spiders can be the difference between ranking #1 and #12.

Size of HTML Coding and Page

Nowadays, it seems as though every web page designer likes the use of Flash, Java Script, or in some cases - dynamic page generation tools like ASP, PHP, of Cold fusions CFM. While these tools make database integration and visual appearance both simplified and amazing - it can also hinder the optimization value of a page - and do so in the eye of every search engine.
Bear in mind that there are two elements that a search engine's spiders and robots can read and decipher. That is the actual HTML markup code, and the ASCII text that appears on the page itself. Regardless of which search engine is your target, it is wise to have the ASCII text contained within your page outweigh the HTML coding of the page.

Every search engine prefers a different amount of text on the page, a different overall page size, and of course, a different keyword density ratio. Google, for example, likes small page sizes, with the size ranging.

When the search engines come to your web page, they have a number of things that they are going to be looking for, and a number of things that they don't want to find on the page.

Some of the criteria that the search engine robots look for are:

* Text, text, text, and more text
* Keyword rich text * Title tags
* Links and Link titles * Alt tags
* A keyword density percentage * H1 Tags
* Large text sizes * No Frames tag if using Frames

Some of the things that the search engine robots do not want to find on your page are:

* To little Text * Keyword Stuffing
* Heavy Java Script * Large File Sizes
* Small Text Sizes
* Frames

The Top 20 Search Engine Ranking Factors

1. Title Tag:

Type your targeted keyword phrase in ANY search engine and notice how 9 of the top 10 sites have that targeted phrase somewhere in their title tag.

*Learn from your competitors and remember keyword density and prominence
.

2. Heading Tag Structure

H1, H2, H3, H4 and no more. Remember H1 is what the whole page is about and the other 'sub' H's are explaining each section under that heading. A good way to look at this is to look at it in a standard outline format.

A. = H1

--- a. = H2

------ i. H3

--- b. = H2

------ i. H4

------ ii. H3 & H4

--- c. = H2

------ i. =H3

--------- 1. H4

3. META Description

The META description is there to describe the page. So describe the page. Remember your page is about your targeted keywords. Make sure those keywords are scattered throughout the description of each page. Also, sometimes the search engines will display your description under your listings on the SERP's (Search Engine Results Page). Therefore make the description captivating enough to make the visitors want to click on your website and not your competitor's.

4. Age of Site

Arguably, this is the deciding factor when picking between 2 sites with great stats. Search engines trust websites that have been around for a long time. This is because if the site wasn't valuable, it would not be on-line any longer. Even though this factor is a huge factor, it's only a factor for old active domains. Old, yet active domains that have history of constant updates and consistently acquiring links are the hardest sites to beat.

5. Total Pages Indexed

The total # of pages indexed is very important because usually the more pages indexed the more keywords you will be targeting. This is not always true, however considering this is USUALLY true; this is definitely a factor in search engines' algorithms. The more pages you have, the more chances your site has to get found. Furthermore every page linking within your site (if done right) could build strong internal page rank.

6. Anchor Text of internal Links

It's important that the links within your site that leads visitors from one page to another describes that page with the keyword it's targeting.
IE: Get directions to our San Diego Location

7. Total Backlinks

YES, the amount of back links still matters. The more links you have, the better. BUT, it's the more relevant links from the greatest variety of sites, the better. You need links from blogs, forums, authority sites, educations sites, local area sites, industry sites, etc. They all must be relevant to you. The more accurate the relativity, the more closer you are to being the most relevant site to the searcher's query. The more (relevant) links, the merrier.

8. Anchor Text of Incoming Links

Originally if someone linked to your site, that someone was a different person with a different website giving you a link titling your company name. So if someone Googles your company name, you'd be the first to show up because other sites said that's who you are. But, new potential customers aren't looking for your web site. People are searching for your services. So you have to find ways to get links describing the services you offer.

9. Average Time on Site

One factor that helps Google determine if your site is a site that will give visitors a pleasant user experience is to record how long visitors stay at your site. The longer you can keep a visitor on your site the more likely you are providing that user with an experience worth sticking around for.

10. Bounce Rate

Like Average Time on Site, Bounce Rate is a metric that measures the worth of your page. Do visitors come to your site and click the back button more often than not? Normally if 80% of the people visiting your site are clicking the back button, that site is not relevant to what they were searching for.

11. Strength of Competition

To be honest, this really isn't a factor in its own. The strength of the competition is probably the backbone of every factor. Ranking results are based on a comparative scale. Meaning the number 1 site is more relevant then the number 2 site based on ALL of these factors. Good ways to measure the strength of the competition is analyze their Alexa Rank, Total Pages Indexed, Total Backlinks and their Google Pagerank.

12. Total Character Count

The more content you have, the better chance you have at satisfying your visitor's query. Google looks for special keywords within your content to back up the keywords you are targeting.
If you are targeting men's clothing, Google looks for terms that will answer every visitor's query. Like pants, shirts, prices, location, xl, discounts, customer service, socks, fitting room, fabric, fashion, etc. Usually to cover all of the visitors' possible questions, you need to provide a lot of unique and informative content.

13. Page Rank

(Ceterus Paribus) Yes, page rank still counts. Many "SEO's" will tell you that this doesn't matter. But, the core of Google's algorithm is based on Page Rank.

14. Keyword Placement

Where amongst all of your content and web pages is your target keywords located? Keywords should have prominent placement in paragraphs supporting their matching headings. Naturally placing your keyword in rich related content the right amount of times is arguably the top ranking factor.

15. Types of Media

Have you noticed videos on the SERP's ranking higher than you?
Or, have you ever ended up at a site through a picture?
Having a variety of media types shows that you are presenting your targeted keywords in various forms, this is most likely pleasing a variety of visitors.

16. HTML Validation

Content : Code ratio is a ranking factor. It must be easy for the bots to run through your site. Also when spiders run through your site, it's necessary that you prevent any traps that could prevent the spider from crawling your site completely and finding all of your content. Broken links are also a big no, no. The bots hate getting led to nothing.

17. Navigation and Architecture

How your site is built and themed is very important for spider indexing and visitor navigation. The paths your visitors take are being recorded. So make sure the pages you want to rank well are easy to find for the user. Having your targeted keywords categorized and your page structure in a siloing format is best. Also add a site map to your website so the spiders could have a one stop page to your whole domain.

18. Click-through-Rate on SERP

Google wants to provide results the visitors want. And to help them determine what they want is to record how many times out of a 1,000 impressions do people click through to your site. If your listing has the highest click through rate it must be because your title, description and or brand are what the users was most likely looking for. This is why title tags and META descriptions are 2 of the other 20 factors in ranking well on the SERP's

19. Total Search Queries Conducted After Leaving Site

If the user searches for that same term over and over again, they must not have found what they were looking for. Your site should answer the visitors query by proving data to the engines that proves that visitor don't need to look any further.

20. Percentage of Return Visits

The higher percentage you have of returning visitors, the better. High return rate means people who have visited your site before enjoyed their visit and found your site valuable. This factor is used in helping Google help others find a site that the visitor may find interesting. So if your site is relevant to the searcher's query and everyone that visits your site returns, Google will use this as a measure of a relevant and interesting site, thus leading to search engine higher rankings.
