High quality backlinks are very good to have! A backlink to your site from a high PR
site (5 or more) will move you up in Google SERPs.
But, that usually means you know the site's webmaster, so they agree to list you.
A better way to backlink is to use your signature in forums (such as mine, Web Standards)
to add backlinks to your site.
For example, if your forum signature looks like this:
